Entry Restricted to Travelers from South Asian Countries to the Maldives

In an official notice by the Health Protection Agency gazetted yesterday, strict entry regulations have been implemented against travelers who are visiting the Maldives from the South Asian Region. The said region includes the countries of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.  

According to the statement, the following rules will come into immediate effect starting today, May 9, 2021, until further notice.  

  1. Tourists arriving in the Maldives from the South Asian region are banned from checking in to guesthouses and hotels in local inhabited islands.  
  2. The arrival of work permit holders from the South Asian countries is temporarily suspended. 


Even though entry to travelers from the region is restricted, the national carrier of the Maldives will continue to operate flights from Dhaka, Trivandrum, and Cochin to Male’ in order to facilitate travel for outbound passengers and locals who wish to travel back to the Maldives.  

The measures are part of a series of restrictions being rolled out nationwide in efforts to curb the possible mass spread of Covid19 and ensure the safety of the citizens.
